The first step in setting up any business is choosing and registering a company name. In New Brunswick, if you intend on your company name being unique, the process inevitably begins with a NUANS® search.

What is NUANS®?
NUANS® is an acronym for "Newly Upgraded Automated Name Search" which is a database managed by Industry Canada containing millions of Canadian business names (both incorporated and unincorporated) and Canadian Trademarks.
The NUANS system determines whether or not the name being proposed is identical or confusingly similar to names currently in use and registered. A report is then generated that is used by the provincial government as well as the federal government to determine the availability and suitability of the proposed name of a business.
If you are registering a company in Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia , PEI or Federally and want to use a name other than the number assigned by the government body then you must obtain a NUANS report through an authorized search house, such as ourselves. These reports are valid for a period of 90 days.
